Chapter 10: Tile

"Nothing," Mingzhou said. "He has nothing on me."

Yuheng looked at him for a long moment, still standing between his knees.

"Liar," he said, quietly.

He didn't push.

He stepped back, straightened his tie, and went back to the board.

Mingzhou sat on the desk with his shirt buttoned the right way and understood that he had just been given something.

It was a door left open. He did not know yet whether he would use it.

That night the shower in Mingzhou's wing was running before he got there.

He stopped in the bathroom door with a towel in his hand.

Yuheng stood under the spray with his back to him and both palms flat against the tile.

He was naked.

Water ran down the long muscles of his back and the old pale seam under his ribs, and the room was full of his scent.

"You're in my bathroom," Mingzhou said.

"I know," Yuheng said.

"You have your own," Mingzhou said.

"It doesn't have you in it."

Mingzhou swallowed.

All afternoon he had thought about what he would say if this happened.

He had run through it in the car, in the corridor, in the dark before dinner.

He had thought he would be calm.

"You made me ride you," he said, "in front of him."

Yuheng did not turn.

"You had him play the one thing I'd never played for anyone. You held me by the hips and made me move, and I said stop, and I said it twice."
