He Sold My Designs to the Chairman, So I Married the Chairman novel · Chapter 22 of 24
Chapter 22: Home
On the first of April, at seven in the morning, the Chairman of Qiao Group burned the congee.
Yichen heard it from the bedroom.
First the clatter of a lid, then a long, dignified silence, then the smoke alarm.
He walked into the kitchen in a pair of Weicheng's pyjama trousers and nothing else, with his drawing pencil behind his ear.
His husband stood at the stove in an apron.
It was a blue canvas apron that Zhou had given him for his birthday.
It said, in white letters, KISS THE TAILOR.
"Don't say anything," Weicheng said.
"I'm not saying anything."
"The recipe said stir."
"Did it say stir for forty minutes?"
"It said until done."
Yichen took the pan off the heat, and opened the window.
He turned off the alarm by standing on the counter and pulling the battery out.
He had moved his drawing table into this flat's main bedroom three weeks ago.
His old room was his studio now, with Ink Weather's first order forms pinned on the wall.
A sofa stood in it where Zhou fell asleep on Tuesdays.
He had slept in the big bed every night since, and nobody had mentioned the terms once.
"You're a menace in a kitchen," Yichen said, climbing down.
