Chapter 15: The Church Hall
Fletcher drove the six blocks to the station in under two minutes.
The bay door was already half down.
Six men in black jackets stood in front of it with a chain as thick as Noel's wrist.
The line was still there.
Forty people on the curb, holding their bottles, not leaving.
Maddie was standing on her folding table so she could yell over the enforcers' heads.
"You can't lock a bay! People need it! It's an ambulance!"
"Ambulance two is on the street," one of the enforcers said. "This bay is closed to pack business."
He held up a paper with a wax moon on it.
By order of three elders and the acting CEO of Stavely Pharmaceuticals.
No member of the Three Rivers pack shall give or receive medicine outside the roll.
"The station chief gave us the key," the enforcer said. "He's pack. He's sorry."
Fenella stood by the ambulance with her arms crossed, red in the face.
"He's sorry," she said. "He's so sorry. He couldn't even come down and say it himself."
Fletcher got out of the truck.
Every enforcer straightened up at once.
