Four men do not fit in an ultrasound room.
They tried anyway.
Gunnar took the chair by my head, and Dale stood against the wall with his arms crossed.
Nils crowded in at the foot of the table, and Leif stood on a stool in the corner so he could see the screen.
"I'm not on the guest list," the doctor said, from her little rolling chair.
She was fifty and tired and had seen everything.
"Who here is the father?"
"Me," Gunnar said.
"Me," said Dale.
"Me," Nils said, a half second later.
"Obviously me," said Leif.
The doctor looked at the four of them for a long moment.
Then she looked at me.
"Is that how we're doing it?" she said.
"That's how we're doing it," I said.
She nodded slowly.
"I've had stranger Fridays," the doctor said, and squeezed the gel onto my bare stomach.
It was cold.
