Table Rock was silver under the full moon, and the whole pack stood inside the stones.
Fionn walked into the Ring beside Mikel.
The bruises were purple down one side of his face, and his ribs were bound tight under his shirt.
Nobody spoke.
Two hundred faces turned to look at him, and he looked straight back.
At the center of the circle, on the flat stone where the Refusal had been spoken, stood Gorka in his black coat.
"Here they are," Gorka said, loudly. "The heir and his pet."
Mikel's fingers closed on Fionn's.
"I called this Ring for the good of the pack," Gorka went on.
"Four days ago my nephew rang the bell and lied to you about two drunk hands."
He pointed.
"Tonight he stands here with the stray at his side."
He spread his arms.
"I ask every wolf in this circle to look at him."
He turned slowly.
"Look at the heir of the Urrutia pack. A man who cannot cut a Refusal."
He let it ring.
"A man who stopped in the middle of the hall because an omega spoke to him."
He waited.
