Chapter 4: Two Hundred and Forty Dollars

A large hand settled on my back.

One smooth pull, and the zipper ran all the way to my neck.

"You're a lifesaver," I said.

Then I looked up into the mirror.

It was not the stylist.

Ezra stood behind me with his hand still flat against my spine.

He was watching me in the glass, and he did not look like he was in a hurry.

"Lost?" I asked. "The groom's room is upstairs."

He said nothing.

The door clicked shut.

He walked toward me, slowly, and each step put a worse idea in my head.

I turned around, which was a mistake.

My back hit the wall.

He set one hand beside my head and stepped in, and his thigh slid between my legs.

I was not going anywhere.

Ivory satin and twenty pounds of beads stood between us, and I still felt every inch of him.

"Mr. Maddox," I said, in my calmest voice. "I think you have the wrong room."

"Two hundred and forty dollars."

I blinked.

"That's what you left on the nightstand," he said. "I counted it."

"Oh." I nodded slowly. "Was it not enough? I can send you the rest."

A muscle jumped in his jaw.

"You think this is funny."

"I think it's awkward. Extremely awkward."

I tried to slide sideways.

His thigh pressed up, and my breath caught, and heat crawled up my throat.
