Chapter 11: The Voice in the Cells
I didn't understand him at first.
Then I did.
The silver wolf that was me threw back her head and howled.
The sound rolled down the dry riverbed and off the hills and came back to us twice.
Craig covered his ears.
Hugh flinched into the sand.
"Genevieve was fifteen," Kieran said, very low. "You expect us to believe that?"
"Believe what you like." Hugh grinned up at him. "She came to Marcus's office herself. Told him Mommy was running to the King with the silver brat. Told him which road."
I stood over him with my teeth showing.
"Rosalie," Kieran said softly. "Not here. Not like this. You want the whole pack to hear it."
I did.
I wanted every wolf in Gray Moon to hear it.
I stepped back.
Turning back was harder than turning.
Kieran knelt in front of me and put his forehead to my muzzle.
"Find your hands," he murmured. "They're still there."
I found them.
I came back to myself on my knees in the sand, naked and shaking.
