Chapter 10: The Poster
Tomoya put the phone face down on his knee.
Ren was still asleep on his shoulder, breathing slow.
Tomoya counted the replies under the photo anyway.
"Soulmates." "The pillow is winning." "Arisaka looks like he's seen God."
Then Chihiro's name appeared at the bottom, in capitals.
"WHO TOOK THIS AND WHY ARE THEY STILL ALIVE. They fell asleep on a train. Delete it or I tell Gojo which of you naps in his meetings."
A moment later the photo vanished.
A new message from her came through, private.
"I deleted it. You owe me a cake. Also you look happy. It's weird."
Tomoya stared at the screen.
"Is it gone?"
Ren's voice came from his shoulder, rough with sleep.
"It's gone."
"Good." Ren sat up slowly and rubbed his face. "I drooled on you."
"A little."
"I'm sorry."
"It's a dry-clean jacket. It's fine."
Ren looked at him for a second too long.
Then he said, to the window, as if he had talked himself into it:
"Come to mine tonight."
Tomoya said yes before he finished hearing it.
Ren's apartment was in Koenji, on the third floor, down a lane of tiny bars, and it was bigger than Tomoya's and almost empty.
He had one sofa and one table.
