Chapter 15: The Cabin
Eero's cabin had one big room, a wood stove, and a kitchen the size of a church pew.
He kicked the door shut behind us with his boot and did not put me down.
The stove was banked low, and the whole room smelled of pine and smoke and him.
"You carried me out of a hall," I said into his neck. "In front of everyone."
"I did."
"Ingrid will bring it up at every meeting."
"Good."
He crossed the floor and stopped at the counter.
It was old butcher block, scarred and dark, with a coffee pot at one end and a loaf of bread under a cloth.
He turned, set my back against the cabinets, and kissed me.
It was not the moon.
It was slower than that and worse, because he was himself, and he knew exactly what he was doing.
His mouth opened mine.
His beard scraped my chin.
His hands slid under my fleece and up my ribs.
I got my fingers into his shirt and tore the buttons off in a row.
They ticked across the floor.
"That was a good shirt," he said.
"It was in my way."
I pushed it off his shoulders.
His chest came out of it, wide and warm, with my teeth marks on his collarbone.
I put my mouth on one of them.
He groaned.
