Sebastian looked at me for a long moment.
"You're sure."
"I'm sure."
He typed the reply right there in the plaza and turned the screen so I could read it.
The owner of Hale International will attend the wedding on October 14th. Please don't tell the groom. She'd like it to be a surprise.
He hit send.
"The Sterling CEO is going to have a heart attack," he said.
"Not until the fourteenth."
The video from the plaza went around the office by dinner.
By the next morning it had a million views.
Somebody had captioned it, "Man on his knees begs rich ex-wife, gets his own voice played back at him."
You couldn't see my face in it. Only my back, and Trevor's white one.
Trevor went back to Kristen that same night.
I knew because Kristen posted a picture of the two of them in a restaurant, toasting.
Nothing can break us. Sixteen days!
My mother called me on Thursday.
I almost didn't pick up.
"Rebecca, sweetheart."
Her voice was soft. I hadn't heard that voice since I was a child with a fever.
