Chapter 16: Family Meeting
The Wexley boardroom has a table made from one slab of walnut and twelve chairs that nobody leans back in.
On Tuesday at ten, nine of them were taken.
Odessa sat at the head with her hands folded on a leather blotter.
Tobias took the chair at her right and arranged his cuffs.
Two board members I had never met sat beside him, a heavy man and a thin woman who studied the walnut instead of his face.
Sinead sat across from them with her ankles crossed, an observer by the trust's rules.
I sat in a chair against the wall because the trust's lawyer said spouses could not vote.
Rafferty sat at the table, and his hand reached back for mine under the lip of the walnut.
"We are here for the annulment," Odessa said. "I will take the family's views."
"Allow me," Tobias said, and stood.
