At seven o'clock on the seventeenth of May, the whole fleet ate waffles on Pier 4 under red, white and blue flags.
The tables ran the length of the planks, with brown cheese and strawberries and coffee in steel urns.
The sun was out, and the gulls sat on the pilings and watched the plates.
