Chapter 16: Not in This Bed

I did not turn on the lamp.

Darius stood at the foot of my bed in the dark.

I stood in front of him, and neither of us spoke.

"My rules haven't changed," I said.

"I know them."

"Say them."

"Your pace. Your hands first. Whatever you say."

His voice had gone low.

"And his name stays out of this bed."

"Good."

I pushed his shirt up over his head and dropped it on the floor.

I put my palms flat on his chest and felt his heart going under them, fast and hard.

"You're nervous," I said.

"You're the only person who's ever made me nervous."

I unbuckled his belt.

I took my time with it, and with the button, and with the zipper.

His stomach went tight under my knuckles.

When I pushed his jeans down, he was already hard, and he groaned when I closed my fingers around him.

"Sit on the bed."

He sat.

I knelt on the floor between his knees and looked up at him.

"Hands on the sheet," I said. "Don't touch my hair."

"Nadine."

"Don't."

His hands went flat on the mattress, and the knuckles went white.

I took him in my mouth.

I took the head first, slowly, and ran my tongue around it.

He made a sound in the back of his throat that I wanted to hear again.

I took more of him.

He was thick and hot against my tongue, and he tasted salty and clean.

When I hummed around him, his hips jerked up off the bed.

"God. God, I'm sorry."

"Don't be sorry. Do it again."

He did, and I took it, and I let my eyes close.

I felt powerful.

I felt like the whole room was mine, and he was shaking in it, and I had put him there.

"Stop," he said, hoarse. "Please. I'll come, and I want to be inside you."

I let him slip out of my mouth with a wet sound.

I stood, and pulled my shirt over my head, and stepped out of everything else.

"Lie back."

He lay back across the bed with his chest heaving.

I climbed up over him and sat on his stomach, and he stared at my breasts without blinking.

"Now you can touch me," I said.
