Chapter 5: The First Time
That night, she was waiting for me with the lights off and a vanilla-scented candle burning on the nightstand.
Her room was the guest room, with a twin bed, a desk covered in notes, and an anatomy poster pinned to the wall.
The nervous system, shown head to toe, with arrows and Latin names.
Genesis sat on the edge of the mattress, wearing a white cotton robe, her hair loose over her shoulders.
The blue notebook lay open on her knees.
“You came,” she said.
“You said ten.”
“It’s ten-oh-one.”
“I got held up on the stairs.”
“Why?”
“Because my hand was shaking on the doorknob.”
She smiled.
I locked the door.
I leaned back against it.
“Genesis.”
“Tell me.”
“Are you sure?”
“I’ve had Practical 5 written down since Wednesday.”
“That’s not an answer.”
“It’s a very long answer.”
She closed the notebook.
She set it on the desk.
She stood in front of me in the dim light.
She untied the belt of her robe.
She let it fall.
She wasn’t wearing anything underneath.
The candlelight traced her curves in a golden glow.
Her breasts, her thighs, her dark hair, the mole beneath her lip.
I was speechless.
“Can you see me?” she asked.
“I can see you.”
“Do you like what you see?”
“You’re killing me.”
“Then come here.”
I went to her.
I took her by the waist.
I kissed her.
It started slowly, with an almost painful slowness.
Her mouth tasted like mint.
Her hands slid up my chest, unbuttoned my shirt, and took it off.
I lifted her against me.
I felt her warm skin against mine.
I laid her down on the bed.
The mattress creaked.
I took off my pants, and she looked at my body with the same focus she’d given the anatomy book.
“I’m still impressed,” she said.
“I’m impressed by your face.”
“My face?”
“Your face when you look at me.”
She laughed.
I lay down beside her.
I kissed her neck, her shoulders, the curve of her tits.
I sucked her nipples, one at a time, until they hardened and she arched her back.
