The family dining room at the Ostatua is the small one behind the kitchen.
It has a long walnut table my grandfather built and a sideboard where my mother kept her good plates.
On Sunday evening, with the public dining room closed and the street quiet, my father set it for five.
He had cooked himself.
He had made lamb shoulder with white beans, roasted peppers and my mother's bread.
He had opened a bottle of Rioja he had been saving since the funeral.
I sat at his left.
Mateo sat beside me, in a clean shirt, because I had told my father I was bringing him and my father had said only, "Good."
My father had been watching Aitor for three days.
I think he had finally begun to see.
Aitor sat across from us, in the grey shirt, with his hands folded on the cloth.
Gorka had said he would come late.
He had a case, he said, and would not miss it.
Nobody touched the food.
"Joseba," Aitor said. "I want to thank you for the name."
