Rhys found my clothes first.

He threw me the T-shirt and pulled his own trousers on with one hand.

"Stay up here," he said.

"No."

"Estelle."

"He's my brother. I'm not hiding in your bedroom."

He looked at me for a second, then nodded once, and held the door.

We went down in the lift without speaking.

My hair was wet at the temples and my knees weren't steady.

The lobby was white stone with a long reception desk and a doorman in a grey coat.

Hugh stood in the middle of it.

He wore his charcoal suit and a travel-creased face, and two older men in dark overcoats stood a step behind him.

I recognized both.

They sat on the board of Cadwalader Marine.

One of them had given me a pen when I got my first promotion.

"There she is," Hugh said gently.

He crossed the floor with his arms already open.

I stepped back.

"Don't."

His arms dropped.

"Estelle. We've been so worried. Mom hasn't slept. You can't just disappear."

"I told you where I was going."

"You told us you were running away to London pregnant, with a few hundred dollars and no plan." He turned to the older men and lowered his voice. "She's not herself."

"I'm exactly myself."

"Come home," Hugh said. "We can sort this out. The Lyles still want the merger. They'll still have you."

"They'll have me."

"With the baby," he said. "Spencer's father has agreed to it."
