The detective asked the security man to send the page straight to her.
Then she looked into her camera, at me, for a long moment.
"Mrs. Ashcroft," she said. "Don't post this."
"I wasn't going to."
"Good. Let me do my job first."
She hung up.
I didn't post it.
But on Friday night the girl from accounts texted me a photo of a printed invitation pinned to the Dorrance break room board.
Dorrance Travel Client Appreciation Brunch. Sunday, March 1. The Cherry Creek hotel, upstairs ballroom. Eleven a.m.
Under it she'd written: Kylie's giving a speech. She practiced it at her desk. It's about you.
Then another text.
She's telling them their data was stolen and you did it. Bryce said it makes us look like victims.
I read it twice.
Henry read it over my shoulder.
"The detective said not to post," he said.
"She didn't say not to go to brunch."
On Sunday at 11:40 I walked up the hotel's curved staircase with a plain folder under my arm.
