By nine that evening, Anders was asleep on a basement cot with a medic taking his blood pressure.
The diversion ledger sat in the Ledger's own server.
The highway chase had ended where Cavan ended it, in a gravel lot under a bridge, with the SUV on its side and nobody hurt.
He had not mentioned it since.
"Her father's papers are in the study safe," Ingrid said, pulling on a coat. "The hospital file, the cast photo, the old phone."
"The phone?"
"His last one. I kept it charged for five years and never turned it on."
Cavan looked at her.
"Tonight," he said. "While he's still guessing where we are."
"He won't guess the penthouse. It's the first place anyone looks."
"Which is why he'll have it watched."
"Then we go in the way you taught me."
"I haven't taught you anything."
"You taught me by example," Ingrid said. "You hide in plain sight and you walk like you belong."
