Chapter 8: Thin Walls
"Don't," Tomoya said.
"I haven't done anything."
"You said it like you were going to."
"I was going to suggest a shower." Ren pushed off the door. "The water's loud."
The bathroom was the size of an elevator.
Ren turned the tap as far as it would go, and the roar filled the little room.
They stood there in their work shirts, dripping steam.
"A quiz show next door," Tomoya said. "A kid upstairs."
"The kid won't hear us under this."
"You've thought about it."
"I had a very long train ride to think."
Tomoya laughed.
He couldn't help it, and then Ren was laughing too.
Tomoya realized they were already pressed together with the water running over their shoes.
Ren cupped his face.
His thumb traced the mole at the corner of Tomoya's mouth, a touch so careful it made Tomoya's eyes sting.
"Tomoya," Ren said.
It was soft.
It was the first time he had said it as just a name, with nothing else in it.
No heat. No order. Only Tomoya's name, said by someone who liked it.
