Chapter 18: The Surgeon's Door
"That pin is a trap," Ollie said.
"Or it's a warning," I said. "Whoever sent it wants us at the clinic. Or wants Crowe there first."
We stood around the long table at midnight, with the map on Jude's phone glowing between us.
Jude sat in a chair, a blanket on his shoulders, a hundred and one again and sulking about it.
"The surgeon's building has one front door and one loading dock," Ollie said. "If Crowe's people watch it, they'll see us coming."
"They'll see us if we're late, too," I said. "Because then they've already been inside."
"Then we go now," Jude said.
"You go to bed."
"Sabine."
"You go in a car, lying down, with an IV, or you don't go."
He looked at me for a long moment.
"Lying down," he said. "With an IV."
Ollie coughed into his fist, hiding something.
We left at four in the morning.
The clinic was a square tan building in a business park in Independence, with a parking lot and a single light over the front door.
