Chapter 8: The President
The label president was a small silver-haired woman in a cream suit and pearls.
She looked at me.
She sat at the head of the green-room table in Atlanta with Vaughn at her right hand.
Bev, Dougie, Fraser and I filled the other chairs, and a plate of croissants sat untouched in the middle.
"Yuna," the president said, "I'm told you've been difficult."
"I've been paid," I said. "It's a different thing."
Dougie snorted into his coffee.
Under the table Fraser's hand found my knee.
It was warm and heavy, and it slid up over my jeans until it rested on the bruise he'd left on my inner thigh.
He pressed, very lightly, and a bolt of heat went through me.
I put my nails into the back of his hand and kept my face perfectly still.
"Here is what we propose," the president said, and slid a folder across the table.
"A one-time payment of three million dollars, in exchange for a voice and likeness license."
"In perpetuity," I said.
"In perpetuity. You also get a line in the liner notes. We'll say 'with thanks to Y. Kwon.'"
