Chapter 17: Paris Lobby

Louisa's POV

Connor was sitting on his duffel bag in the lobby of the Paris hotel when I came down for coffee.

He hadn't shaved, and the fresh tour shirt had a coffee stain on the chest.

I stopped on the last stair.

My phone buzzed in my back pocket with a text from Eli: *Soundcheck at four. I keep thinking about your left shoulder.*

I read it and put the phone away with my face hot.

Then I looked at Connor again, and the heat went out of me.

"Lou," he said, standing up. "Thank God."

"Don't call me that."

"Please. Five minutes."

The lobby was full of the crew's cases and the early fans who had learned the tour's hotels from the feeds.

Three of them already had their phones out.

"You can say it here," I said.

"Not here."

"Here."

He swallowed.

"Brianna changed the room key on me last night," he said. "I came back from the bar and the card didn't work. The desk said the room was under her name alone and she had checked out of my half."

"That sounds like a Brianna problem."

"She has my passport." He lowered his voice. "She said she'd hold it for safekeeping. She has my passport, Lou, and I have eleven euros."

"I'm sorry to hear it."

"Come home with me." He took a step toward me. "Come home. We'll sort the rest out. The lease, the money, all of it. I never meant for any of this. It was her idea. Every bit. She said you'd understand."

A woman at the nearest couch lifted her phone higher.
