When I Flash-Married a Billionaire, My Ex Went on a Hunger Strike novel · Chapter 24 of 24
Chapter 24: Breakfast
He carried me over the threshold of the penthouse in my wedding dress, which was a ridiculous thing to do.
I let him.
He set me down inside the door.
The room was dark except for a line of candles along the long wooden table.
A fire in a new iron brazier on the terrace, and the city lit up beyond the glass.
"You did this," I said.
"I had help from two nurses and a florist."
"It's perfect."
"Turn around."
I turned.
He undid the tiny buttons down my back, one at a time, and every one he opened he kissed.
There were thirty-one of them.
By the twentieth I was leaning forward on my hands against the door, breathing in short pulls.
"You're doing that on purpose."
"I'm a surgeon. I've been trained to be thorough."
The dress fell.
I stepped out of it in my stockings and nothing else, and I turned.
He looked at me with his whole face open.
"Wife," he said.
"Husband."
"My wife."
I took the brooch from the dress and set it on the table with great care.
Then I took his hand and led him to the bed.
I undressed him slowly this time, button by button, the way he'd undressed me, and kissed each new patch of skin I uncovered.
His collarbone.
The scar along his ribs.
The low, hard line of his stomach.
When he stood bare in the candlelight, I knelt on the rug at the foot of the bed and took him in my mouth.
He swore and braced a hand on the bedpost.
I took my time.
I sucked him slowly and watched his face.
I let him see that I enjoyed it, that I wanted every sound he made, and he groaned my name like a hymn.
"Mina. You're going to make me lose it."
