The Summit held its closing dinner in the same hall where I had once been called a thief.
It was the middle of January, and the winter session had filled the folding chairs again.
Nine hundred grocers sat in their good jackets.
The wide stage ran along the front.
The banner over it was new, plain white letters on grey.

I stood in the wings in a suit that Zoe had chosen.
The blazer was one I did not hate, and a hoodie was folded in my pocket in case I needed it.
Bridger stood beside me holding a paper plate with three crab puffs on it.
"They're good," he said. "You should eat one. You look green."
"I'm fine."
"You look the way I looked before the first demo."
"You threw up in a plant."
"It was a very forgiving plant," Bridger said.
The green-awning grocer walked out to the lectern in his suit and tapped the microphone.
"Friends," he said. "I've been on this system twenty-six years."
