Chapter 22: Review
The review was held in the post's long conference room, under a flag and a portrait of someone dead.
Three officers sat behind a table with water glasses, and the one in the middle was the Inspector General himself.
Forrest stood at attention in his dress uniform with his hands at his sides.
I sat in a folding chair in the front row, in a grey dress I had borrowed from Trina, with gloves on.
I wore them out of habit, not fear.
"Staff Sergeant Dalton," the Inspector General said.
"You were assigned as a handler and trainer to a cadet of this academy. You entered into a sexual relationship with her."
"Yes, sir."
"She is a student."
"She is a student, sir, and I was her trainer, and I held the power. I do not dispute any of that."
"You do not offer an excuse."
"No, sir."
The Inspector General looked at his papers.
"The finding of this board is that your conduct was a violation, whatever else was true about the circumstances."
