Chapter 19: The Claw-Foot Tub
The water in his grandmother's clawfoot tub was hot enough to turn my skin pink.
I sat between his knees with my back against his chest.
It was Wednesday night, and the tin roof ticked in the cold.
One candle burned on the sink.
His arms came around me under the water, and his chin settled on top of my head.
"I'm going to read you something," Jesse said.
"You don't have to read anything."
"I'm not reading. It's not written yet."
His right hand drifted down my stomach and slid between my legs.
I let my head fall back against his shoulder.
"Chapter nine," he said, in the low, slow voice I had learned from the page.
"She sat in the tub and he sat behind her. He had not touched her all day."
"The not touching had made them both half mad," he said.
His fingers stroked the length of me, once, light.
I shivered in the hot water.
"She had her back against his chest," Jesse said. "She could feel him against her spine. She could feel how hard he was."
I could.
He was a long hot line against the small of my back, and every time he breathed I felt him move.
"His hand was between her legs," he said. "He did not hurry."
He circled my clit in slow, lazy loops, and the water lapped against the porcelain.
"He said, you have been thinking about this all day."
"I have," I said.
"That's not in the book," he said.
"It should be."
"I'll put it in," he said.
He slid two fingers inside me, and I moaned.
