Chapter 12: The Night

He carried me to the couch under the windows.

It was a long leather couch that faced the harbor, and the lights of the ferries moved slowly across the glass.

Caleb set me down on it and stood over me, breathing hard.

"Rule's broken, Mrs. Reed," he said.

"You said it was mine to break."

"I did." He knelt and pushed my navy skirt up my thighs. "I'm going to enjoy every second of it."

I pulled his shirt over his head.

His chest was broad and warm and scarred along the ribs from some old accident with a mooring line.

I put my mouth on the scar, and he groaned.

He unzipped my dress down my back, and I lifted my hips so he could drag it off.

My bra went next, and his hands closed over my breasts.

"God, you're beautiful," he said.

He took one nipple into his mouth and sucked, and I arched off the leather and threaded my fingers through his hair.

I had not been touched like that in two years.

My husband had stopped looking at me long before he stopped coming to bed.

"Caleb," I said. "Don't be gentle."

He lifted his head and looked at me.

"Say that again."

"Don't be gentle. I've been careful for six years."

He tore my underwear off me.

I heard the thin cotton give, and I laughed, and the laugh broke into a gasp as his mouth found my pussy.

He licked me from the entrance up to my clit in one slow, wet stroke.

My thighs shook around his shoulders.

He pinned my hips to the couch with both hands.

He worked my clit with his tongue, circling, then flicking, then sucking, until my heels dug into his back.
