Chapter 8: Boone's Night
Boone washed my hair first.
The water ran hot in my small shower, and he stood behind me with his chest against my back and soap in both hands.
His fingers worked through my twist-out slowly, from the scalp down.
I braced my palms on the tile and let my head fall forward.
Nobody had washed my hair since I was a girl on Gran's back step.
"Is this all right, ma'am?"
"It's perfect."
"I didn't know what to do," he said. "I thought I'd start with something I knew."
"You know hair?"
"I know lines and nets and engines." His voice was low and dry behind my ear. "I figured a head is a head."
I laughed, and the water went down my throat.
He rinsed me with the handheld nozzle, one hand shielding my eyes, and I leaned back against him.
He was already hard.
I could feel the length of him against my lower back, thick and hot, and he made no move to hide it.
"Boone."
"Yes, ma'am," he said.
"Wash the rest of me."
He picked up the bar.
He started at my neck and moved down in slow, soapy circles, across my shoulders and the long muscles of my back.
His hands were rough and wet, and they were gentle in a way that made me ache.
He turned me around.
The soap slid over my breasts, and I watched his gray eyes follow his own hands.
He rolled my nipples between his thumbs, and my back arched.
He moved lower, over my stomach and the curve of my hips, and then he went down on his knees on the wet tile.
He soaped my thighs, one and then the other, and kissed the inside of each knee.
Water poured over his black hair and ran down his face.
He looked up at me from the floor of my shower with water on his lashes.
He looked at me, waiting.
"Come up here," I said. "Stand."
