I scrolled down the page with B asleep on my shoulder.
They'd posted everything.
The bed rest order. C's growth scans, with her weight circled in red.
A nurse's note from the NICU about my blood pressure on the second night.
Jens came in from the porch with his phone in his hand.
"The union's lawyer says that's against about four laws," he said.
"I know."
"St. Mary's says it's looking into who opened your chart."
"I know who opened my chart."
He looked at the screen over my shoulder.
At the bottom, under the pictures of my scans, was a quote from the mayor.
I raised a son alone while I ran this city. I know what it takes. I also know what it costs the children.
Upstairs, Marit had come out onto the landing with her son.
She'd read it too.
"She used to tell me that," Marit said. "Every time I wanted a day off. Anders had a nanny until he was twelve."
Tova came home from the sleepover at nine and read the page standing at the counter, moving her lips.
