"Yes," Amory said.
"All of it."
The judge looked at him over the bench for a long moment.
"Be specific, Mr. Bexley. A court doesn't take a mood."
"Every note on Orchard Row is reconveyed to the owner, free and clear, today."
"Every payment that was altered is refunded with interest, and every late fee."
"Every legal bill any neighbor ran up fighting this is paid by me, personally, not by the company."
"And the foreclosure notices come down off the doors, and I'll take them down myself."
"What does it cost you?"
Amory thought about it honestly.
"About eleven million dollars," he said.
"And the forty-first floor of my father's tower, which I'll sell to pay it."
The gallery made a sound, a soft breaking of something.
The judge pushed a stipulation across the bench.
"Read it," he said, "before you sign it."
Amory took the pen, and unfolded the page, and read it aloud, every word, in the gray jacket, at a witness stand in a county courtroom with his wife watching.
