Two hundred and fifty heads swung back around to me.
"She sees things!" Larissa said again. Her voice cracked high.
"Her mother did too! Her mother told me, at the end. Ask her! Ask her how she knew about the bank!"
Nobody said anything.
A phone in the fourth row was filming me. Then ten phones.
I put my clippers down on the floor next to my bucket.
I stood up.
"Here we go," Maggie breathed on the radio.
I walked up the aisle.
The way I'd walked down the other one, three months ago, in a wedding dress.
I stopped a few rows from the front, where everyone could see me.
"I don't see things, Lari," I said. "I read them."
I looked at the back of the room.
"Wells. Page twelve, please."
Their vineyard engagement photo vanished from the screen behind the altar.
A bank statement filled the wall. Twelve feet high. One line circled in red pen.
POMEROY FAMILY TRUST. JUNE 2. WIRE TO THURLOW DEVELOPMENT. $40,000. MEMO: INVESTMENT.
A murmur went through the room.
"My mother left me a trust," I said. "She made Larissa my co-trustee because she loved her."
