Chapter 3: The Mill

In Anders's loft Teddy sets his four rules and takes the first full night on the couch.

The car came to the curb at nine on Thursday, a long black sedan with a driver who did not look at Teddy once.

Teddy had swapped his Mulligan's shift for a Sunday brunch he'd regret.

The mill stood on the river like a brick cathedral.

A hundred and ten years of flour dust had gone into its walls.

The old Holmgren sign still ran across the top in white letters.

A freight elevator took him to the top floor with a rattle, and the doors opened straight into a loft.

Brick walls, black iron windows, and the Mississippi running below them in the dark.

Anders stood at a long steel table in his shirtsleeves, with a glass of water and a thin folder.

"You came," he said.

"You paid fourteen thousand dollars. I'm not an animal." Teddy kept his hands in his jacket pockets so they wouldn't show. "I want to set terms."

"I thought you might," Anders said.

"Rule one. I don't stay the night."

"Go on," Anders said.

"Rule two. No marks anyone can see. Not on my neck, not on my wrists, nothing above a T-shirt." Teddy swallowed. "Rule three. Maddie is not part of this. You don't text her, you don't look at her, you don't ask me about her."

"Agreed."

"That was fast."

"You've asked for three things that cost me nothing." Anders turned the folder toward him. "Mine are also three. You answer when I call, within the hour, except at work. You tell me if anyone else touches you."

"That's two."

"The third is that you stop saying thank you."

Teddy stared at him.

"I texted you thank you once."

"You texted it twice. Once for the money, and once at four in the morning for the evening." The grey eyes did not move. "I'm not a waiter, Gallagher."

"I was raised to say it."

"Then say it to your mother."

There was a photo on the shelf behind him, a small silver frame turned a little away.

Two boys at the end of a wooden pier, backs to the camera, with a grey lake behind them.

Teddy thought, absurdly, that he had stood on a pier like that.

Then Anders took the water glass out of his hand and set it down.

"Take off your jacket."

Teddy took it off.

"The shirt."

He did that too, and the brick wall seemed to lean in on his bare chest.

Anders walked a slow circle around him, hands behind his back.

He took in the ribs, the freckles over the shoulders, the narrow waist, the trail of copper hair that disappeared into Teddy's jeans.

"You swim."

"High school. Still do, sometimes."

"I can tell." A long finger touched the dip between Teddy's shoulder blades. "Pants."

Teddy undid the button.

His heart was going hard enough to hurt.

"Slower," Anders said. "I want to watch you."

He pushed the jeans down his thighs, and the briefs after them, and stood naked and half hard in the middle of a billionaire's floor.

Anders sat on the leather couch in the lamplight and spread his knees.

"Come here."

Teddy came.

"On your knees."

He knelt between those knees, and Anders cupped his jaw and thumbed the gap between his front teeth.

"That's the first thing I noticed about you," he said.

"The gap?"

"That you don't hide it when you laugh." The thumb pressed his lower lip down. "Open."

Teddy opened.

Anders unbuckled his belt with his other hand.

The cock that came out was thick, flushed, and heavy, and longer than Teddy had expected.

He licked the head, tasted salt, and the hand tightened in his hair.

"Take it."

He took it.

He took as much as he could, and then more, and the hand on his head pushed him down until his eyes watered.

He gagged once and drew back, and the grip let him go at once.

"Breathe."

He breathed, spit hanging off his chin.

"Again," Anders said.

Teddy took it again.

This time he found the rhythm, fist at the base and lips tight, and the sounds above him changed, low and rough.

Anders's head went back against the leather.

"Fuck. You're good at that."

Teddy hummed around him, and the thighs under his hands went rigid.

"Enough," Anders said, and pulled him off by the hair. "I'm not coming in your mouth tonight. Up."

He hauled Teddy up by the arms and turned him, and bent him forward over the arm of the couch.

The leather was cool against his belly.

A drawer opened and a cap clicked.

"Tell me if it's too much."

"It won't be," Teddy said.

"That's not what I asked."

"Then I'll tell you," Teddy said into the cushion.

A slick finger circled his hole, and then two, and then three, with a slow stretch that made his thighs shake.

Anders worked him open with a steady, patient hand.

When Teddy rocked back against the fingers, a palm smacked his ass, not hard, once.

"Still," Anders said.

"I can't," Teddy said.

"You can."

Teddy froze.

Every muscle in his back strained.

"Good," Anders said softly. "That's mine to move."

The fingers left him, and the head of Anders's cock pressed against his hole, thick, blunt, and impossibly hot.

Teddy held the arm of the couch.

Anders pushed in.

It was slow, one hard inch at a time, and it burned all the way, and Teddy's mouth fell open on a cry.

A big hand clamped over it.

"Shh," Anders murmured, bending over his back. "Nobody can hear you here. I still want you quiet for the first part."

Teddy sobbed into the palm.

Anders sank to the root, and stopped.

Teddy could feel all of him, huge and still, filling him past anything he had known.

"God."

"Not yet," Anders said, and began to move.

He fucked him slowly, in long deep strokes that dragged over the sweet spot every time.

One hand held his hip and the other covered his mouth.

The sound of it filled the loft, skin on skin and the creak of the couch.

Teddy could not move his hips.

He could only take it, and he was so hard it hurt.

"Please."

"I can't hear you."

He bit the palm.

Anders laughed, low and wicked, and let go.

"Say it."

"Please, fuck me harder," Teddy begged.

"Harder," Anders said.

"Harder, Anders. Fucking please."

The strokes turned savage.

He slammed in, deep, and Teddy cried out into the leather, helpless and loud, and nobody at all could hear him.

He came without a hand on himself, dripping onto the couch, shaking through it.

Anders held his hips and drove through to the end.

He came inside him with a low grunt against his neck.

They stayed like that, wet and breathing, with the river lights on the ceiling.

Anders lifted off him and tugged a throw over Teddy's back.

"The car will take you home. Rule one."

"I know," Teddy said.

"Say your rules back."

Teddy turned over on the couch, naked, spent, and dizzy, and looked up.

"I don't stay. No marks. Maddie stays out of it."

"And?" Anders said.

"And I answer within the hour," Teddy said.

"And?"

"I don't say thank you."

Anders smiled for the first time.

It changed his whole face, and it was gone almost at once.

"Good boy," he said.

The black car took Teddy home through the sleeping city with his body still humming.

At a red light his phone buzzed on his knee.

Home safe?

He typed Yes and then, without thinking, thank you.

He deleted it.

He sent Yes.

A moment later the reply came.

Better.
