Chapter 11: The Christmas Party

Dalton looked like he might be sick on the steps.

"The Christmas party," he repeated.

"You don't remember," Marissa said. "You had the whole bottle of Macallan the board gave you."

He didn't deny it.

I remembered that night too.

I was eight months pregnant and asleep by nine.

I woke up at two in the morning to use the bathroom.

The guest room light was on. Dalton was on top of the covers in his suit, still in his shoes, snoring.

I took his shoes off. I didn't ask him how he got home.

I never asked.

"What night was it?" Shane said.

Everyone turned to him.

"The party," he said. "What was the date?"

"December nineteenth," Marissa said. "A Friday. Why?"

Shane didn't answer.

He took out his phone and started scrolling.

"I drove you home that night," Marissa said to Dalton. "You couldn't even find your keys. I got you inside and I stayed with you until you fell asleep."

"You got in my house," I said.
