Chapter 19: The Road
On the fifth afternoon the road ran straight and flat across the plain, and the wheels rang on the frozen ruts.
"Curtains," said Rosalind.
Lysander put down the book he had not been reading and looked at her across the coach.
She sat opposite him on the blue velvet seat, with her skirt spread and her boots up on a footwarmer.
She had been thinking about this since breakfast.
"The coachman is thirty feet away," he said.
"He cannot hear anything over the wheels."
