Chapter 17: The King's Mouth
The King's chamber was on the east side, with the windows open to the river.
The lamps were lit and the room was warm.
The King was sitting up.
Ton stopped in the doorway.
He had seen the King twice. Once from a distance on a horse and once in a dream that wasn't his.
In the dream the man had been thin and his hand had been weak.
This man was thin and his hand was strong.
He was sitting against a bolster with his hands folded on the coverlet and his eyes open.
"Bua," he said.
"Father."
"Come here."
Bua went.
Ton stood by the door with the guards behind him and the rope on his wrists.
Krit came in and stood by the window with his hands behind his back.
The physician stayed out in the corridor.
Bua sat down on the edge of the bed.
"How are you?"
"Better," the King said. "Much better."
"You've been asleep for three days."
