Ansel told Lenny everything in ten minutes, sitting on his own bed with his hands between his knees.
Lenny listened without moving, the flash drive in his lap and his lab coat still buttoned wrong.
When Ansel got to the part about Dane, Lenny held up a finger.
"One thing.
"Is the stepbrother thing also a thing?"
Ansel's ears went hot.
"Yes."
"Okay."
Lenny nodded slowly.
"I noted the bite on Monday.
"I'm no longer noting."
"Lenny."
"I'm furious, and I'm also going to help you.
"These are two separate feelings, and I can hold both."
He turned the laptop around on the desk.
"How much of the inbox is still anywhere?"
"I deleted it every Friday.
"The Ledger account only keeps thirty days of trash."
"Thirty days from the day you deleted it."
Lenny was already typing.
It was Wednesday, the twenty-eighth, and sunlight lay in a flat orange stripe across the desk.
