On Saturday, I reached Sadie's venue before the doors opened.
I carried two folding chairs and a bag of paper napkins.
Miles followed with a third chair and no theory about improving the evening.
The woman at the door looked pleased until she saw my heels.
"Guests go upstairs," she said.
"I'm bringing chairs," I explained.
She took one from me and pointed to the stairs.
"Then you're still going upstairs."
She held the door with her foot while we squeezed the chairs through sideways.
We carried everything to the little room and put it where Sadie asked.
Her name appeared on the new poster in letters bigger than the sponsor's.
She stood beside it checking the room.
I wanted to take a photograph, but asked first.
"With the poster," she said.
"Without you holding it up."
I held my phone behind my back and took the picture.
