Pippa rang for help and received everyone who'd ever wanted to be asked.
The young ghost came from the front window.
He looked over his shoulder, apparently hoping someone more qualified was following him.
The old woman left her broken cup on the sitting room table.
She arrived wiping her empty hands, ready to find out which of them was needed.
Rosamund appeared with her traveling bag already in her hand.
Elaine looked up from her trapped handbag.
"That bell is for staff," she said.
"Where are they?" Pippa asked.
My aunt looked around the crowded hall and chose not to answer.
The old woman who'd come from the cellar asked whether anyone had requested hot water.
Elaine immediately said she'd prefer tea.
My cousin stared at her with the bell still caught against her sleeve.
"I was asking for help," she said.
"Then ask Hester," my aunt replied.
