Chapter 11: All Three

I looked at the photo for a long moment.

Then I looked at Anson, lying naked in my bed with one arm behind his head, watching me.

"They know," I said.

"Josiah would have told Gray. He tells Gray everything."

"Rule two says nobody touches me without the other two knowing."

"It does."

"So they get to know."

"Yes."

I typed one line back.

Come up. Third floor, the door at the end.

Anson sat up.

"Daphne. Are you sure?"

"You told me not to lie to you." I got up, found my robe, and tied it. "I'm sure I want to see all three of you in one room. I'm sure I want to decide it myself."

"Then decide," he said.

I opened the door when I heard them on the stairs.

Gray came in first, with a grease-stained paper bag and a look of shameless delight.

Josiah came behind him, and he did not look at me, or Anson, or anything but his own shoes.

"I brought sandwiches," Gray said. "For the man who broke a rule. Hello, Anson."

"Hello, Gray."

"Was it good?"

"Yes."

"Good." Gray set the bag on the counter. "Hello, Daphne."

"Hello."

"We're not angry," Josiah said, to the floor. "I want you to know that. I told him to go home, and then I went and told Gray, because I thought that was the rule."

"It was the rule," I said. "You kept it."

He looked up.

"Josiah." I crossed the room. "Come here."

He came, and I took his face in both hands, and kissed him.

When I let go, I turned to Gray.

"You too."

Gray did not need to be asked twice.

He bent and kissed me, laughing against my mouth, and one of his hands slid inside my robe and settled on my hip.

"Daphne," Anson said, behind me.

"Yes?"

"You said you wanted to decide yourself."

"I'm deciding." I turned and faced all three of them, standing in a row in my one room with the kettle behind them. "I'm saying yes. To you. To you. To you. Tonight, all together. If anyone wants to say no, say it now."

Nobody said anything.

Gray began to smile slowly.

Josiah took his glasses off and set them on the shelf.

Anson stood up from the bed.
