The Chaebol Family Drowned Me, So This Time I Wrote the Contract novel · Chapter 23 of 24
Chapter 23: By Choice
The contract ended on the second Tuesday of January, in the same glass room on the forty-first floor.
The lawyer read the clause aloud.
Seung-hwan signed first, in his upright hand, and slid the page to me.
I signed beneath it.
My father's debt had been cleared since September.
I owed the Haneul family nothing, and they owed me nothing, and the lawyer shook my hand warmly.
Seung-hwan walked me to the elevator.
"I intend to open a small shipping office," he said. "In Incheon. Alone. I think I will be bad at it."
"You'll be careful at it."
"That is worse." He almost smiled. "Be well, Yu-ri-ssi."
It was the first time he had used my name without the surname.
I bowed to him exactly as deeply as I had the first morning.
He bowed back, which he never had.
Outside, it was snowing a little, fine and dry.
I took the subway to Seongsu, which I had never done in either life.
The shop's shutter was half open.
