Chapter 9: The Tie
His office was on the thirty-seventh floor, with a glass wall on the ocean side.
The door locked with a click I heard from the inside.
Asher pushed me against the desk before I had put down my bag.
"Say what you want," he said.
"I want to stop deciding things."
He went still.
"For an hour," I said.
"I made every decision at that table. I took the check back, I picked the date."
"I put my father's name in my mouth in front of thirty men."
"I want one hour where somebody else decides," I said.
"Taddeo," he said.
"Don't make it a conversation," I said.
He looked at me for a long moment, and then he reached up and undid his tie.
It was dark blue silk.
He drew it through his collar slowly, with his eyes on mine.
"Hands," he said.
I held them out, wrists together.
He wound the silk around them twice and knotted it, not tight, with his fingers warm on my pulse.
"You'll take all of it," he said.
"Tell me to stop," I said. "Go on. I dare you."
"I'll tell you nothing of the kind." His mouth curved. "Sit."
He lifted me onto the edge of the desk.
Papers slid.
A pen rolled off and hit the carpet, and neither of us looked at it.
He took the hem of my black dress in both hands and pushed it up my thighs to my hips.
He held my tied wrists above my head with one hand and pinned them to the glass behind me.
With the other he hooked my panties and drew them down my legs, slowly, and dropped them on the floor.
The glass was cold against my arms.
The ocean lay out beyond it, wide and blue and glittering, and I knew that no one could see us from anywhere.
"Lean back," he said.
I leaned back on the desk with my arms stretched over my head.
He pushed my knees apart.
Then he knelt on the carpet between my legs, with his hands on my thighs and his mouth an inch from me.
