I didn't answer her there.
I walked across the courtyard to the fallen middle awning and dragged the black canvas off the gold chair.
It was heavy and hot from the sun.
I hauled it to the east wall and threw it over my sister's head.
Under it she went still.
"Captain," I called across the courtyard. "Bring a cart with a cover on it."
Corin looked at me from the shade of the arch.
"Where's it going?"
"The keep," I said. "In chains."
The throne hall was full that night.
Every great house that had walked out of the crowning feast had come back up the hill.
They'd heard by sunset.
Half the Montcalm household had burned or fled, and Isadora was gone.
The green lord stood in the front row in a new velvet coat.
He'd bowed so low to me on the way in that his chain of office swung against his knees.
The envoys sat on a bench of their own along the side wall.
They watched the king.
