Chapter 10: Back Seat
We made it four blocks from the club before I put my hand on his thigh.
"Pull over," I said.
"We're on Michigan Avenue."
"Then turn."
He turned.
He drove north without a word, with his jaw set, and I kept my hand where it was.
Under my fingers the muscle of his leg was hard as wood.
I slid higher, over the crease of his trousers, and found him already stiff.
"Hallie."
"You said 'she'll be sitting next to me.' In front of forty people."
"I did."
"You said 'together.'"
"I did."
"I've been wet since the soup."
His hand tightened on the wheel until his knuckles went white.
At Montrose Harbor, past the empty fishing pier and the dark water, there was a gravel lot with no lights at all.
He drove to the far end and cut the engine.
The only sound was the wind and the tick of the cooling car.
I unbuckled my seat belt.
"Come here," he said.
I climbed over the console in my little black dress and settled astride his lap, with my back against the steering wheel.
He caught my face between his hands.
"You were magnificent," he said.
"I was shaking."
"You were a queen."
He kissed me, deep and slow, and the heat of the whole evening rose in me at once.
His hands ran up my thighs, under the hem, over the lace of my underwear, and found my ass and squeezed.
I ground down against the hard ridge of him through his trousers.
He hissed.
"Rule two," he said into my mouth.
"I know."
"Tonight I'm feeling generous."
"Then be generous."
He slid his hand between my legs, over the damp lace.
"You're drenched."
"Benedict."
He pushed my underwear aside with two fingers and stroked me, slowly, from my entrance to my clit and back.
